It is the First Sunday of Advent. It has been a beautiful day here in the Twin Tiers. It started out cloudy and gloomy, but this afternoon, it was beautiful. We had bright sunshine and 50 degrees. Most of the snow that we got before Thanksgiving has melted. What is left is either in the shade or piled up from plowing or shoveling.
This morning we started our Advent series that we are calling Arrival. It will take us through Advent and Christmas to Epiphany. I am looking forward to this whole series. This morning, I led the musical worship and Pam helped lead the spoken parts. We even celebrated communion together. We sang some of my favorite Advent songs, Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus, Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me), and Jesus Messiah.
I preached a message on the hope that comes from Jesus arrival in Bethlehem and also the hope that we have that Jesus is coming again. Some people think they are incapable of redemption, but we were reminded that no one is in this state. I used a clip from A Muppets Christmas Carol as well as a song called Advent Hymn by Christy Nockels.
It has been a good week. We even got a chance to go to the Dubois Diner. If you ever go through Dubois, I would encourage you to check it out. That’s about all I have for this week. Seize the Day!
