Sunday Night Thoughts

Super Bowl Sunday!

Part of the reason this post in on Monday morning is that I was busy watching this incredible game.  When you’re a Philadelphia fan, championship games are always interesting.  I can never tell whose side the announcers are on – and Cris Collingsworth was driving me crazy.  I was shocked that several reviews went the Eagles way – that’s not usually the way it is with the Patriots.  It was a great game.  I am also thankful for the great testimonies by the coach and players during the trophy ceremony.  What a game! As a bonus the Eagles won – I’m so excited.

  • This past week, we celebrated three – count ’em – three birthdays.  Both of our grandchilden had birthdays as well as our son.  It was good to spend some time on Saturday with James.
  • Last week I had a cold – on Tuesday it took me completely out, but it has been hanging on.
  • I got in several runs. I even ran outside on Thursday, although looking back I probably shouldn’t have. The treadmill would have been better. It led to a hacking cough.  I have 57 miles for the year – well ahead of last year’s pace.

This morning we celebrated God’s grace as we shared the Lord’s Table together at McCrae Brook. Communion is always a special time and we were able to theme the whole service together.  I shared the Parable of the Laborers as we talked about grace and celebrated God’s grace.

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Today if you are  a believer, I encourage you to live as a trophy of grace.  Seize the Day!
