Yep, didn’t get this written last night. Yesterday was a wonderful day of ministry. It capped off quite the week of ministry. As I write this I am sitting at the Bradford Sheetz, looking out at a beautiful hill full of fall foliage. Our area is near or at peak at the moment and it is gorgeous. The hill in front of our house has been changing every day. Pam is at physical therapy today for her tennis elbow, so I came with her.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving
Our neighbors to the north celebrate thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. This is the first time in several years that we haven’t been able to go. (More on that in a moment.) We do wish our children and grandchildren, along with their families and all of our Canadian friends a blessed thanksgiving. I love the fact that their thanksgiving is not about football – although when the Blue Jays are in the playoffs, Thanksgiving can be about baseball. Also, because shopping is not associated with the holiday as it is here in the states. Almost all stores (except for pharmacies and convenience stores) are closed. It makes for a wonderful family holiday.
Yesterday was a busy day. First we were up to worship with the McCrae Brook family. I preached a message on being a people of prayer. I was excited by the response. It was one of those messages that I struggled with all week. Saturday morning I sat down at the computer and it just flowed – so much so that I didn’t even really need the notes as I preached it yesterday morning.
Following worship, Pam, Anna and I headed north to Hamburg, NY for our District’s Ordination Service. This is always a highlight of the year. I often think of it as a renewal of vows – much like when attending a wedding. Dr. Joanne Lyon was the official representative from The Wesleyan Church. Her message was called “Cast Your Net on the Other Side.” It was a wonderful confirmation of what God is doing at McCrae Brook. It was good to see my friend Mike Trippett ordained last night. The service is full of meaning. The musical worship team did a great job. It was a great way to cap off the day and we even got to go to Wegmans.
Being that it is October, our church is celebrating their pastors. They are doing a great job. It’s been fun because they really tried to keep it a surprise. We keep getting random gifts and the notes and cards have been so encouraging. I am thankful that God brought us to McCrae Brook. I believe that we are on the cusp of something great. We would appreciate your prayers as we continue to lead this congregation.
I write all of these thoughts, because there are days in the ministry that we need to remember what God has called us to – there are days – and each minister has had them when we think – “What is God up to?” I am thankful that God has given me a glimpse of what is going on – and what He is up to. Have a great week!
