It’s been a bit of a crazy week and it ended crazier than it started. The good thing is that today has been nice. It started off very cool at 37 degrees. That’s just a bit chilly, but by lunch time it was beautiful – the sun was nice and warm. Pam and I even went out for a walk this afternoon.
Yesterday we had a great day as a church. We had the first all church workday since I have been here. We cleaned up the property and did some housecleaning of some of the church closets. Many of the tasks we set out to do got finished and many hands made light work. Several of our members who weren’t able to help work, made us lunch. It was a wonderful time.
Pam and I both got in a full week of work. It is nice to be with Pam on my afternoon runs. Getting into the swing of things has made it difficult on our workout schedule. The end of September didn’t work out as well as I wanted, but I still got in over 100 miles.
Pam preached this morning as we continued our series called, “Next Level.” She preached on being the body of Christ as we celebrated the World Day of Communion together. It was a very good service. Next week as part of the series, I will be preaching a message called, “A People of Prayer.” Each of these messages challenge us to be a church that goes to the Next Level.
This week we will be saying our last earthly goodbyes to a dear parishioner who died yesterday after a long illness. I will be preaching from 2 Timothy 4:
6 As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.
I would appreciate your prayers as I minister to the family. As I write, Pam is preparing the communion stuff to be put away. As soon as I finish, I’ll put in in storage. That’s about it – looking forward to what looks to be a nice beginning to October weather-wise. Hope you have a great week. Carp Diem!
