We are just a little over 24 hours away from officially experiencing a full year here in the Western New York District. Since Sunday afternoon, we have been at Refresh Retreat and Family Camp. It has been a great week so far. We are so appreciative of our camp directors. It is a wonderful family experience. Our camp is held at Houghton College. Historically there was a campmeeting ground right in Houghton, but now the college is used as the home base of the camp. It is a great place for “campmeeting.” I quote that because, it is not like most of the campmeetings I’ve been part of. Almost everyone stays in campus housing – dorms, townhouses, or apartments and it is great. We even have a kitchen, where we could cook our own food if we wanted. But there is also the option of eating in the Houghton College dining hall. Like I said, it has been a great experience. The morning starts off with a 20 minute time of musical worship. This year it was led by Steve Dunmire – who is our assistant DS and also the director of Ministry Resources for Houghton College. He has done a wonderful job in leading us. Worship is followed by two hours of various seminars. I even taught a seminar on worship (twice). After lunch is free time with both planned and spontaneous activities. There is an open gym, pool and other things. After dinner we gather for worship and that has been wonderful. Our guest speaker is Derek Vreeland and we have been talking about the Way of Jesus. Great stuff. After worship there has been some type of late evening activity. Tuesday night there was a softball game under the lights. We had a great time. Houghton has some great athletic facilities. It has been great to be here – I definitely feel refreshed in my spirit which is one of the goals.
Looking forward to what God has in store in the next 24 hours.
