Worship renewal in the twentieth century has focused on two key issues: understanding what worship is and experiencing the power of worship…Because worship is multifaceted, no single definition completely captures it in full. The following attempts at definition express the richness and diversity of worship and show that a key to renewal is the awareness of worship as both a divine action and a human response.

[Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at eleven historical definitions of worship from this same book.]
As worship begins in holy expectancy, it ends in holy obedience. Holy obedience saves worship from becoming an opiate, an escape from the pressing needs of modern life.
– Richard Foster
It really is hard to believe, but here it is – the first day of spring. Here in the Shenandoah Valley, spring is breaking out all over. In fact, I need to get to Lowe’s and get stuff to get the lawn mower ready, because the grass is ready to be cut. It’s going to be a long summer if we are cutting the grass already. But enough complaining…
I love spring…It is constant reminder of the new life that comes from the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The flowering trees smelled so good this morning on my run. The park is looking so beautiful – and that is how it is we Jesus – Jesus changes our life into something beautiful. Happy Spring 2012!
This is a great song that I have been playing quite a bit lately – I Will Follow
Spring is here! It would even be much more like summer. This week I will need to get the lawn mower ready because the grass is ready to get its first cutting of the season – in March? The lows are in the low 50’s and the highs in the 70’s to 80’s. This is early for these kind of temps in the Shenandoah Valley. I need to change the oil and get a new blade for the lawn mower. I can’t believe its that time again.
It has been a good week as I spent the last week in Frankfort, IN leading worship at FLAME. We had a great week together. It was one of the few times at FLAME that I led worship without a drummer. We had two acoustic guitars, piano, bass, djimbe and some singers. Some of those changed throughout the week, but it was good. I really missed having my tech toys (wireless headset, wireless transmitter for my guitar and the lyric monitors.) But it didn’t affect the quality of the worship.
I have done alot of sleeping (I got a solid 9 hours last night and took an afternoon nap) and hoping to get another good night’s sleep tonight. I’ll be heading off soon.
As much as I like being at FLAME, it is always good to be back home with my family. I really missed Pam and James. It was also really good to be back with our church family.
We had a great service this morning. The praise team did a great job (even though we had to rush through a rehearsal this morning.) It was good to have drums, even though we don’t have a bass player yet. Our district superintendent was here and he preached and hit the ball out of the park as he preached from Revelation 1:9-20 We finished the service with a great song of celebration – “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name.”
This week we get ready for a missionary visit and help our summer missions team with chocolate dipped Easter eggs. I am looking forward to what God has in store this week.

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.
