12-Minute Mile
The weather and my schedule finally cooperated together and I finally got a run in after a three day rest. My initial goal was to go out for a five-mile run, but I also wanted to run at a faster pace. When I run at Gypsy Hill Park it is tough to time out the miles until you get to the 4 mile mark, because 4 miles is 3 laps. As I was nearing completion of the 3rd lap, I glanced at my watch and saw that I was on target for a personal best if I picked up the pace — which is what I did and completed 3 laps in 48 minutes. This is the first time that I have done a 12-minute mile over that distance 🙂 I am very excited, even though I was not able to run 5 miles today. It was different, because I really had to push myself and I began to hear my breathing become labored and I felt my heartbeat race like it did when I first started running. If I continue at this pace a 12-minute mile will soon feel normal.
Because we will be away for Thanksgiving, I’m taking a few days rest, but plan to be back at it on Saturday, which is forecast to be cold. Pressing on…
