Worship leader and blogger Bob Kauflin wrote a great post on reflecting on his 55th birthday. Happy Birthday, Bob. Many years ago I was introduced to the music of Bob Kaulfin when he was the keyboardist for the band Glad. I wore out those early albums during my teens and early 20′s. They helped me grow both spiritually and musically. Quite a few years ago, when we were still in Allentown, Pam and I were at a marriage retreat sponsored by our church. There was also a youth retreat at the same facility and later in the evening we had a chance to meet the band playing for the youth retreat. It turns out that several of them had played for Glad in the “Beyond a Star” days. Not only did I get a chance to meet them, but got a chance to jam with them for a few minutes. The bass player let me play his bass, which was a fretless Ibanez. I have never played a bass like that in all my days. It was sweet. You barely had to press on the strings and they played. I played licks that I haven’t played again to this day. It was fun. I had forgotten all about that until I started writing this post.
Bob has some great thoughts that all of us worship leaders should reflect on from time to time.
Here are the first 3 reflections:
1. The years I have left for fruitful ministry are dwindling.
2. Now’s the time to influence the next generation.
3. Relationships and the local church matter.
Click here for reflections on the first three and the last six.
I love the way he completes this post:
It is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death (Phil. 1:20).
