I Got My Second Wind
I was really excited to get back out and run today. Tuesday’s run left me wanting to do more this week. It looked like it would be a good day to run in the afternoon, so that’s when I made my plans. Pam dropped me off at the local park. They have a 1.3 mile loop around the park. The first lap went pretty well except for the stiff headwind on the back .7 miles of the loop. The front .6 miles was with the wind. Each lap would continue the same pattern, except during the second lap when I ended up winded and my legs hurt. I took several short walks but my legs during the second lap felt like lead. Before thanksgiving I felt like I had wings on my feet, like the fictional character Mercury. I haven’t had that feeling lately. It feels more like lead weights.
While that feeling didn’t go away, by the time I hit the front .6 miles the second time, I developed a second wind. This was great as I was able to complete the second lap and a third lap without stopping. In fact, I continued on until Pam and James arrived back at the park. By the time I was finished I had completed 4.7 miles of walking/running, with about 4.5 miles of that at a run — which is the best since Thanksgiving. I don’t know what Saturday holds weather-wise. It looks like it is turning for the worst. In any case — we press on toward the prize!
