This morning Dr. Tom Armiger gave the State of the Church address.  He asked the question, “What should be at the core of the Wesleyan Church?”

  • 75% of businesses fail because they forget their core.

What is our core? Colossians 1:27

  1. Proclaiming the glory of Christ in our worship
    1. A. W. Tozer – Worship is the missing jewel in the evangelical church
    2. Rober Webber – Worship is the missing link in the evangelical church
    3. Authentic worship is centered in Christ — centered in spirit and truth
    4. Our lasting impression in worship should be “God was here.” – a sense of awe
  2. Perfect one another through discipleship
    1. Evangelism — Discipleship must include evangelism
    2. While we may be growing in numbers, we need to increase in discipleship
  3. Prepare others for leadership
    1. Passing the baton
    2. Raising up the next generation
      1. Student Ministries (Cradle to college)

Formula for Success:

Concentrate everything upon the business in which you are engaged…stay true to the core of who we are.
