Over Thanksgiving we took the children to Washington DC. They have been asking to go for a couple of years and we finally got there. As we drove and walked around Washington DC there were a couple of thoughts that I had that I cannot get out of my mind.
The place that touched me the most was when we went to the Vietnam memorial. It was the only memorial that you did not hear much noise. It took me back to my childhood when my father was home. We would watch the news each night for hours. My mother hated us doing it but that is where my love for current events came from. As we were walking past the endless roll of names, I thought to myself, “Did I see the face of this man as I watched the news as a child?” That was an eerie feeling. They were just names to me but they were real people, to some they were family members and friends. It also took me back to Sunday School at that time in history. I remember going to Sunday School and asking prayer for someone to go to those military personal to tell them about Christ. Back then we didn’t talk about the military in church. I had a hard time understanding why we could not prayer for the souls of military in church. At the time, I did not know that my father actually knew a chaplain over there, Retired Chaplain Cole. Why are some people more important than others are? Some still don’t understand my passion about the military. At one point this year, I realized that God answered the prayer of a little girl and he did send and is still sending men and women to go to the military and tell them about God’s love. Here are a couple of names so you can pray for them; Kevin, Jim, Jeff, Gordon, Martin and Robert and many others.
