Home from Camp

This morning I left early with the church van to go pick up our teens from Youth Camp.  This year our camp was held in North Carolina — Victory Mountain to be exact.  I have been there leading worship for FLAME.  I think it is an excellent place for a youth camp.  As I arrived I saw several of my friends from the district and even got to talk with our District Superintendent.  Anna asked my if I could come early to be part of the last rally, so I showed up early to do that.  Pastor Paul of our Parkway church did a great job leading worship.  I believe the youth pastors of the district tag teamed the preaching.  This morning’s message was about ministry.  One teen defined ministry as serving others.  The speaker gave us three points about ministry.

  • We must model ministry — we must set the example of being like Christ.
  • We must either have a mentor or be a mentor.
  • We must have the proper motivation.

They closed camp by giving each teen a link from a chain to remind us that we are all connected.  They everyone got into a circle and our DS closed us in prayer.  It sounds like everyone had a great time and I am thankful for our District Youth Cabinet for putting on this youth camp.

When you are planning to donate stuff to various organizations, take time and really look at the items you are donating. Are they really in good enough to sell or are they junk? I know from spending time at a Marine armory during Toys for Tots drive while I was younger, we have seen a lot of things donated that are just junk. We have heard stories of people going on a missions trip and seeing the junk that people have given and taking full amounts off their taxes. If it is junk, throw it away your self do not let someone else have to do it.

Now that I have that out of my systems, my compassion ministry idea this month is seeing if you can find a single mom that needs a break this month. Maybe you can just bring a snack or a treat for the children to help out with cost of food or even give her money to go get some groceries. You will have to watch who you give the money to, to make sure it goes to snack and not anything else. Maybe you can even take the time and watch the kids for her. Or get together with her to give her some time with an adult.
