Today, the children and I decided to do a job that needed to be done. It was one of glamorous J job — We were going to weed the church’s flower garden and plant flowers. As we were working on pulling the weeds, our oldest daughter came out to tell me that she was working on her job which was to make phone calls. As she was watching, us she asked the question “what kind of soil is the ground with which we were working?” She was talking about the parable of the farmer sowing seed that Jesus told. We spent some time talking about the parable. After that discussion was done, the two younger children were talking about the reward they were going to get after the job was done. I thought they were talking about how nice the flowerbed was going to look for our District Superintendent, but they were talking about ice cream. Anna has a recipe to make ice cream in baggies. The Anna and James have been begging to do it all week and I thought if they had to do all of the work, they could had have fun. It was interesting how in an hour and half how many lessons we talked about.
