Yesterday was my last day at Radioshack. It really has been a rather amazing journey. I have now been a bi-vocational pastor for almost 8 years — five of those in New York and three here. The church at Fort Miller was not able to sustain a full-time pastor, so I had to go looking for employment elsewhere. What was really interesting is that most people, didn’t want to give me a second look. As a pastor, I guess they though all I would do is preach to the other employees. I applied at one of the local stores and received an offer to come work at one of the five stores in the area. It was alright, but the distance was almost 20 miles. The job at Radioshack was suppose to be temporary. I tried numerous times to get out, but I felt it was necessary for me to stay there. There was even a time while in New York that I was pastor, music teacher at a Christian school and working at Radioshack. Those were crazy times. It was convenient for me to be able to transfer when we felt God calling us to Martinsville. Now, those days are over.
Several weeks ago, I was offered to drive truck for our local Salvation Army Thrift Store. I will miss my former managers in New York (but I’ve missed them for three years already.) I will miss several of my co-workers and my most recent manager. There are other things that I will miss as well, like the discounts
. I was a great almost eight years — and I am grateful for the experiences.
I’ve already gotten a glimpse of my new job and someone in Martinsville, turned on the heat switch. Those who saw me in April at FLAME will probably see a slimmer me come August, because I will lose weight in the summer time heat. This is a much more physical job and it is outdoors. All which will be good for me.
