Tonight, I got over to the church a little later than usual. We had planned to have a “school’s out” picnic. Pam, Anna and I setup the equipment. We sort of have a portable church on Wednesday night. The sound is semi-permanent, but the mixer, mic/lines, computer, and projector all need to be set up each week. By 5:20, we had only received two calls for 3 students. I was preparing for the worse. Our driver went and started picking up the students. One more got a ride and brought two others, and one more showed up as we got started. We had nine students and eight staff for a total of seventeen.
It went really well because the students who showed up really like to sing and we did plenty of that tonight. I had a short devotional on pursuing the Christian life and not giving up. After that we sang a few more songs and then had our picnic of hot dogs, potato chips, cupcakes and ice cream. I love hot dogs. I was a real nice low-key night and the students were very well behaved.
Tomorrow I go back for my second day at Salvation Army. It’s suppose to be hot, hazy, and humid. It already is right now. As I write the temp is 81 degrees at 9:30. Carp Diem!
