This morning I was reminded once again that sometimes God takes us through trials to make us better people. Every morning I listen to the devotion on our local Christian radio station. This morning was no different. The devotional talked about how we are earthly vessels and the pressures we go through make us stronger. I have watched potters work on the clay while it spins on the potter’s wheel. To help the clay became a beautiful jar, the potter has to put pressure on the clay to form it into the masterpiece that the potter want it to be. As the devotional went on, my thoughts went to a piece of pottery we received from Lasana Ritchie. She is an artist and works with pottery. When you look at the pottery the first time, you have to question what she was thinking. She put an explanation in the pottery. The piece of pottery is to remind us that God works on each of us Christians differently.
Creative Curves:
My concept of Christian perfection could once have been compared to a common drinking glass pure and transparent. The problem is that an assembly line can produce many identical glasses. I continue to realize that God wants more.
The material used for these forms embodies the element I seek… The clay itself is porcelain- pure clay. The glaze is transparent showing the character of the clay. The shape of the form represents the life of a Christian who allows God to apply pressure in the gentleness of His hands. This process makes each creation unique.
God has taught me to discard my concept of perfection, relax in His hands, rest on His promises and trust Him to work His perfection in my life. Struggling works against His molding process. As we trust God with the care of our lives He is faithful to make us beautiful and useful vessels in His service. In all that happens to us, he is working towards what happen in us. Lasana Ritchie
