Happy Mother’s Day
To all you moms out there. This was one of those bittersweet Mother’s Days. This was Pam’s first major holiday since losing her mom. It wasn’t easy, but she made it. It really made me sensitive to all those who have lost moms this year. I think we struck an appropriate balance. At one of my first DBMD (District Board of Ministerial Development) Meetings (They are the committee charged with the responsibility of interviewing and ordaining candidates for the ministry in the Wesleyan Church.) I said something about preparing worship for Mother’s Day. I’m pretty sure it was the next day. A dear old gentleman saint gave me some wise words. He said to make sure I was sensitive, especially considering some may have a loss during the past year. That was some wise advise and I continue to heed it.
This morning we had a crowd for Sunday School. It was the first time we had over thirty in a few months. The cool thing is we had several of our students either bring their mom or bring their grandmom. We even had some students show up that hadn’t been here in awhile. We had a good crowd for worship (40) as well. I think we had a great service this morning. We had some great singing and I really felt the Spirit’s presence as we worshiped together. I preached on “The Gifts of the Spirit” from 1 Corinthians 12. It was a good fit and picked up on the themes of several Sunday School lessons.
Since Mother’s Day is always a big “out to eat” day, we took Pam out yesterday and the children bought Pam’s gifts. By the time we get out of church, there’s always a huge line. Tonight, we are not having church, so we will get a chance to spend some time as a family. That’s why I’m trying to get this done early.
Mom’s thanks for all you do for us. I especially thank my mom for the wonderful Christian heritage that she passed down to me and my brother and our families. God bless you.
