Easter Vigil (After sundown Saturday)

Exodus 14:10-31; Romans 6:3-11; Matthew 28:1-10
Our journey this week is drawing to a close. Exodus 14 gives us a glimpse of the hope we have this evening.
29 But the people of Israel had walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, as the water stood up like a wall on both sides. 30 That is how the Lord rescued Israel from the hand of the Egyptians that day. And the Israelites saw the bodies of the Egyptians washed up on the seashore. 31 When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had unleashed against the Egyptians, they were filled with awe before him. They put their faith in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
Is there hope that the same God who delivered the Israelites out of Egypt, just might have a plan regarding Jesus. Jesus still lays in a tomb – but not for long as we find out in Matthew 28. I remember Easter 2007 very clearly – for one is was cold for Easter (even for a northerner and Easter was late last year). It was crystal clear and you could see the moon very clear and I remembered thinking to myself (to quote an old Sandi Patti song) “Was it a morning like this?” What were those who were going to prepare Jesus’ body for a proper burial thinking? What was going through their minds? The resurrection is getting closer! Can you feel the anticipation?
