One Friday night this past December, Dale came home and asked me, “Do you know you have a friend at the Army recruiting office?” He informed me that he was walking around the mall handing out coupons for a sale that Radio Shack was having the next day. He was taking the coupons to all of the mall employees and since the recruiters offices are in the mall, he handed out coupons to them as well. When he got to the Army recruiters, he realized that he was talking to the recruiter that I had given cookies to a couple of months before. James wanted to help out his pen pal who just happens to be the chaplain to the Army recruiters in Martinsville. So in August of 2007, I made some cookies and we went to the Army recruiters to give them the cookies. While we were there we met a nice Sergeant First Class. When Dale realized whom he was talking to he asked the Sergeant, if he remembered the woman and little boy who brought him cookies. The soldier smiled and asked if there were any more cookies coming his way. Since then we have taken cookies a couple of times to the Army recruiter. It is really not a big thing to do but it is a way to brighten up the recruiter’s day. This is my highlighted compassionate ministry for March. Every town or city has a military recruiting office, in the past couple of months there have been anti-military recruiting office stories in the news. Just this morning a New York City recruiting station was bombed. No matter what you think of the war, we must take care of our military personal. The recruiters are just as important in the military as every other position. So this month let the men and women who work in the recruiting office know that you are behind them.
