My oldest daughter has discovered Facebook. She encouraged me to signup and immediately she invited me to be her friend. One of the many groups she is part of is “You Know You’re a PK When…” I was reading them to Pam the other night and she got a good laugh out of many of them — Pam grew up in the parsonage and married me because I wasn’t a pastor. Life is ironic sometimes. Anyhow, one of the quotes was you know your a PK when you spend all day at the church and that is normal.
Today was one of those days mentioned above and my “kids” were troopers. They helped get the sanctuary ready for our hanging of the green service tonight. I appreciate all my family and how they support the ministry of the church. James really enjoyed putting up the tree and hanging the ornaments.
Today was a great day of ministry at Preston Wesleyan. This morning we began our Advent celebration. I am preaching a series based on Todd Agnew’s CD “Do You See What I See?” You should check it out. It came out last year and it’s one of those CD’s I play even during the middle of the summer (The nature of this CD allows you to do that) Except for the opening track there are no “traditional” Christmas songs on it. This morning we looked at Elizabeth, the mother of John. What would it be like to give your son away, knowing that he would suffer the fate of other prophets? He would be a prophet on the order of Elijah (that was powerful.) As we prepared for communion I asked, what do you need to give away to the Lord, in order to prepare the way like John did? Rhonda, one of our soloists did a great job on Elizabeth’s lullaby (Sleep Well) and prepared us for communion. It’s a challenge to do communion on the first Sunday of Advent, but it really worked this morning.
Like I’ve already mentioned, we spent the afternoon preparing for our hanging of the greens — moving decorations up from the basement. After we prepped the decorations, we went over the song list. We used the projector to put the songs on the screen.
We did have a little break because our students were practicing for their play and then we had our service. It was very interactive with most of the congregation participating. We had various readings and decorations to put up. We involved students and adults — it was very nice.
We rewarded our two PK’s this evening with a trip to McD’s for snack. It’s been a great day. Thank you Lord for your many blessings.

Welcome
Song of Worship - There’s A Song In the Air (Holland/Harrington)
Lighting of the Advent Candle – Our God Comes
The Lord God of Israel said,
“I will send my messenger,
who will prepare the way before me.”
A voice of one calling:
“In the desert prepare the way for the Lord;
Make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be raised up.
every mountain and hill made low;
The rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.
And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all mankind together will see it.
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
The sovereign Lord comes with power,
and his arm rules for him.
His reward is with him,
and his recompense accompainies him.
He tends his flock like a shephered:
he gatehres the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart.
Malachi 3:1a, Isaiah 40:3-5, 10-11a
