Since this Thursday is Thanksgiving, our services today celebrated that we need to be thankful. This morning’s worship was centered around thankfulness — the worship songs and hymns — our prayers — the offering — and God’s Word — all addressed the issue of being thankful. For the sermon this morning, I used an acrostic of the word thanksgiving. At first I thought it would be easy, but it proved more difficult than I first thought. Once the words were in place, the sermon came easy. There was a good response to the message.
This evening, we took church “on the road.” At Thanksgiving, five churches (even though there are many more) get together for a community thanksgiving service. It was not our turn to host and it was not my turn to preach. I had the wonderful opportunity to read the scripture, which was from Matthew 25 and the parable of the talents. My comrade in the ministry did a great job of preaching from God’s Word on using our talents to the glory of God. It was a great service and the Blackberry Baptist Church congregation put on a feast for us before worship. I love worshiping with others who are part of the body of Christ. My friend George, who preached tonight likes to call us (with good reason) the holy, apostolic, catholic church. It was good and tonight I am thankful to God for all He has done in my life; most importantly, I am thankful for the wonderful gift of salvation that He has given to me. Blessings….
