To put it mildly, today was an interesting day. I really can’t say I’ve had a day like it before in the ministry. Even trying to put the words down is difficult. Today’s sermon was a work in progress. That is, even as I stepped in to the pulpit, it didn’t feel finished. I had written it to completion and had even rehearsed it (which is part of the routine). Fortunately, God stepped in and took over and worked everything out.

One of the things that is finally starting to happen is that it’s getting cooler out. When that happens the piano strays from the standard tuning. As we started worship, my guitar was beautifully in tune with itself but completely out of tune with the piano. I tried retuning, but to no avail. Let’s just say the musical portion of our worship was “out of tune” and if you know me, that threw off the other part for me. We struggled through the songs we knew well. And then there were the “new” hymns (to our congregation), “Immortal, Invisible” and “A Christian Home” (which uses the same hymn tune as Be Still My Soul.) Actually those went well, because I stopped playing my guitar and just sang.

One of the parts of the service that went very well was our teacher appreciation. We used the projector and made a little multi-media thank you. I even surprised our Sunday School Superintendent with a gift. We also gave each teacher a small tokien of our appreciation.

Tonight we had our small but faithful bunch as we finished our study on Ephesians. Several are going away on trips this week. Several of my friends will be in Denton, MD for FLAME, so I won’t have as many visitors to my blog. And Martinsville will be getting ready for NASCAR this week. The “Chase for the Cup” comes here, so our city will triple or quadruple in size during the week. For now, it’s time to close up and go to bed.
