It appears that I am part of a growing trend — a bi-vocational pastor. Here is a great article from MSNBC about this trend.

Hebrews 12:1-3 (NLT)
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
This year we have tried something different with our Mosaic teaching schedule. Four of us rotate through the Middle and High School classes. I have been using video lesson plans. Tonight’s lesson was, “How do you want to be remembered?” I shared from Hebrews 11 and the first part of Hebrews 12, which is above. There are many who have gone on before us to make a way for us. They are cheering us on. I think about those at Preston Wesleyan who have paved the way for the ministry we have now. We are now running the race that they ran ahead of us and I ask myself, “What legacy am I leaving?” and what is important? It’s interesting to watch what is important to us as we get older. The older I get the more I want to leave a lasting legacy of love for my Savior and my family, nothing else really matters.
This afternoon, driving the students to church, we passed a Camaro for sale. What I would really like these days is one of those Chevy Cobalts. But that is a wish, if God enables us to do that one day (and maybe it won’t be that car, but another nice car) that’s great, if not I’m happy with what we have and what God has enabled us to have. But a nice car is down on the priority list for us. The question I have tonight is, “How do you want to be remembered?”
