This week’s video is another from the band Casting Crowns. How many times do we make the minor thing the main thing? The video is “American Dream.”

Today wasn’t a bad day, but it wasn’t what I would call a spectacular day either…and that’s ok. Last night I received a call that either Pam and I would have to teach the senior adult class this morning. They use the standard Wesley material. So I looked over it this morning. It actually wasn’t a bad lesson to teach and I didn’t have the teacher’s book, so I was “winging” it. We were reminded that the pursuit of things — money — wisdom — power — work — pleasure, while not bad in and of themselves are only fleeting and temporary. Without God, eventually they will become meaningless.
After that, we jumped into worship. Today was the last day that Rebecca will be with us on the platform leading worship on a regular basis. As the day approaches to take her to college, I become melancholy. Yes, have we been preparing for this day? It still doesn’t make it any easier. During our prayer time, we had all our college students come forward for prayer. At some point during the year, I generally present a “State of the Church” message. Normally, it is around the time of our Local Church Conference, but there was alot going on then. This is a chance to cast some vision to the general congregation. It went well and we finished with communion.
This afternoon our women gave Rebecca a “going to college” shower. James and I stayed home and rested. She got quite a few nice gifts.
This evening, we studied Ephesians 2:1-10. We looked at how we once were not friends of God, and even though we weren’t, God had mercy on us because of His great love. He lavished His love on us so that we could be His children. We are saved because of grace through faith. I like this. Just think if we could save ourselves by what we do. Then we could boast about how good we are, but we can’t. We are God’s masterpieces and he created us to do his work. It’s all in his master plan.
Another cool thing that I did today was to go back and revisted a few of my posts from November to April. This has served as a cool journal to remember how God is working and to capture some of my thoughts in writing. It also helped me remember how God has brought us through some difficult times.
