Tonight, we had our Ministry Leadership Team meeting. As we began the meeting we talked about mission and vision. What is our mission as a church. We have adopted this mission statement:
It is our mission at Preston Wesleyan Church to advance the Kingdom of God by bringing unsaved people to Christ, to train believers for ministry, to nurture believers in faith and to exalt God the Father.
I asked the team, without looking at the bulletin if they could tell me what the mission of the church was, not only Preston, but the holy, apostolic, catholic church. One of the most important things for me is “to advance the Kingdom of God.” We are in the Kingdom building business.
Then I asked them, “If money or personnel or anything else would not get in the way, what would be your vision of what we could be.” I was pleased with the answers: A community center (a very cool idea), an afterschool mentoring program (again a cool idea), and a daycare (three times cool.) This are all about Kingdom building. I really liked the first two and that gives us something to work toward.
I asked the board to keep Kingdom in mind as we proceeded through the meeting. We started with prayer for several who have urgent medical conditions. As we finished, we closed in prayer again, asking for His guidance in building His Kingdom.
