Some of you know that Wednesday nights at Preston is devoted to student ministries. We have been praying for many years that God would bless our church with students. Be careful what you pray for, because God will answer. We had 31 students show up (or call for rides) for Mosaic Student Ministries. Along with the seven leaders that totaled 38, which tied our highest Wednesday night and that was when I first came to Preston. We had an out-of-school picnic, with hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, nachos, and s’mores.
Instead of breaking up in to classes after the picnic, I shared a devotional from Mark 8:34-37. If we want to be Christ’s followers, we must deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him. I asked the students what they dreamed they could be after graduating. There were some great answers. I then told them what I would like to see them become.
This past weekend my mom bought our family, “Facing the Giants.” To illustrate the point of picking up our cross and following Jesus and serving Him with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength, I played the “Wholehearted” clip from the movie.
We had a rare occurance. The room was silent as the students watched the clip. As the clip finished, I asked the students if they were willing to give their very best to God. Several raised their hands and made commitments to serve God wholeheartedly. This was a very cool point in our student ministries.
I was on cloud nine as we came home and basked in the things that God is doing through Mosaic.
