I discovered this quote this morning. It’s part of a much larger post by Jamie Arpin-Ricci.
…we recognize the image of God reflected in all people, we should be drawn to know them, attracted to that which we see in them. We pursue them, not as something to be conquered, but as lives to be shared.
His whole point is what is are agenda when it comes to the gospel? or what is our intention? I agree that the word agenda comes “loaded” with meaning. We often ask what someone’s agenda is when we don’t like the direction they are going. Whereas when we wonder what someone’s intention is, we tend to be less judgemental. People don’t want to be seen as something to be conquered. That makes them feel like a number. It makes them feel like are intentions are something else — like numbers for the district or denomination. We should seek to know people — relationship is the key — again as Jamie posted a few weeks ago — people are more important than programs.
