There are several good thoughts tucked away among these passages. The picture to the left is from the Hubble Space Telescope. Even the heavens declare the praises of God. All of creation is to praise God.
Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heaven! He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful ones—the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the Lord!
The Acts and John passage reminds me of If We Are the Body by Casting Crowns. The Jews were complaining to Peter about his visit to a Gentile. Peter gently rebukes them, telling them that God is not playing favorites — that everyone needs to hear the hope that can be found in Jesus. In reality, Peter is living out the commandment Jesus gave in John. “Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” In the song we are the body, Mark Hall writes, “Jesus paid much to high a price for us to pick and choose who should come, and we are the body of Christ. Jesus is the Way.” Ouch! We have an awesome mission because Christ gave it to us. It’s not for us to pick and choose, who He brings our way. We need to minister to those Christ has given us and continue to reach out to those who so desperately need the message of Christ.
