Here are the readings for this coming Sunday.

Acts 5:27-32; Psalm 118:14-29; Psalm 150; Revelation 1:4-8; John 20:19-31

Over the next few Sundays, we will be looking at the Revelation passages. We are going to be look at the “Hymns of Heaven.”

Tomorrow’s passage declares, “to the One who is, who always was, and who is to come.” He is the eternal, unchanging One. He is worthy of our praise. The writer goes on to say that Christ freed us from sin with His blood to make us priests in His Kingdom. Each of us it to be a worker in His Kingdom. When we do the work of Kingdom building, we give God the honor and glory that He deserves. What is the work that we were called to do? Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all that I have taught you.” This is our mission and this is how we worship Him.

Many years ago, in the dinosaur ages of Christian Rock, the band, Servant wrote the song “Jungle Music.” It was a song defending the use of “Christian Rock.” The song finishes with a dialog which worked in most of the current, at the time, Christian artists and the titles of some of their albums.

In that vein, my daughter Anna became inspired and wrote a letter that does something similar.

Dear friends,

U2 must be having fun at Jeremy Camp. I hope you will remain Kutless in your adventures. Did you about this New Breed? It started in Israel. Thursday, this BarlowGirl came up to me and told me about it. There is a Hawk named Nelson flying around the neighborhood. The Third Day you were at camp, we had a Sonicflood. It ruined all the Jars of Clay. Did you have any GRITS yet? Late Tuesday, I thought I was going to be a Dead Poetic. I was really Delirious. Did you hear about the new Switchfoot operation? It is cool. Norma and Jean if I can tell you. Project 86 you will have to be Reliant K. I have to stay Underoath. As I Lay Dying, all I can say is MercyMe.

Becoming Missional: Missional – When a Missional Church Gathers

This is a great article on what it means to be missional. These thoughts have been rattling around in my head of late. As I read Jerry’s words, I really felt that missional is really where the church needs to be.

My good friend Mark at Revitalize Your Church writes about missional groups that are part of the church he pastors. Thanks for showing practical ways.

I loved this last post — The Community Coming to Be Known As Missional.

Here is the quote that jumped out at me.

We are ruthlessly committed to people over programs, demanding that the latter always serve the former or it will be abandoned. We cooperate, not compete, not seeking to win the praise or demand the submission of others. Neither do we serve buildings and budgets, but they must serve us as we serve others. We seek our greatness in our pursuit to becoming servants.

I really don’t know what I could add to that.
