Exodus 34:29-35; Psalm 99; II Corinthians 3:12-4:2; Luke 9:28-43
This coming Sunday on the liturgical calendar is Transfiguration Sunday. Our church is also celebrating Amazing Grace Sunday. The Luke passage describes the event we know as The Transfiguration. Jesus took his inner circle of Peter, James, and John up on the mountain to pray. While they were praying, Jesus appearance was transformed. Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus on the mountain.
Peter, James, and John fell asleep. When they awoke, they said, “Wouldn’t it be great to stay here?” But Jesus’ ministry had to continue. What can we get from this? So many times when we get to the spiritual mountain top, we want to stay there instead of going on. What would have happened if Moses would have stayed on the mountain top, or Elijah, or Jesus and his disciples? We must come off the mountain and continue the work of the ministry.
The other thing we can get from this is that transformation is important in the life of the believer. We are called to be transformed and to transform others. 16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. We are to reflect the glory of the Lord. Sometimes people will turn away, just like the children of Israel did. We are called to be changed into His glorious image. Are you?
