Soul Central Railroad – by The Chigger Hill Boys and Terri
Some of you may know that my musical tastes are quite diverse. I enjoy listening to various types of music from bluegrass to rock to classical to jazz.
This CD is a wonderful gospel bluegrass CD. I just also happen to be related to the vocalist (Terri, my cousin) and bass player (Rick, her husband.) It’s quite different from what I normally listen too, but I love it. Some of my favorites are the title track, “He Understands,” “The Devil’s No Match for a Flame Like That.” and “The Farmer and His Wife.” Terri and Rick played “The Devil’s No Match for a Flame Like That” at my mom and dad’s Christmas get-together. I even added a little guitar solo to it, which wasn’t bad considering I was hearing it for the first time. “The Farmer and His Wife” is a deeply personal song about our family’s roots. To think about those who have gone on before; who’s legacy we are living. The farmer in the song, I believe, is my great grandfather. Terri and Rick made us a DVD of the song with some old pictures. It is a wonderful tribute to those who have run the race before us.
Hopefully, the Chigger Hill Boys and Terri will be here in Martinsville this summer if the Lord works it out. If you want to hear samples from this CD or any of their other CDs, click here.
