Today was an average day. Before you wonder what I’m talking about I encourage you to read this Keith Drury article.
I agree that we do get caught up in the greatness trap instead of letting God use us right where we are. Right in our ordinary churches with our ordinary spirituality. I know that God has been working on me during this last 18 months. After reading the article, I’m even excited about having an ordinary marriage. In February, Pam and I will have been married 20 years. By the way, continue to pray for Pam, she is still not feeling well. She missed both the morning and evening services. It’s been a long time since that happened. Pray that the doctors can figure out what is going on.
Because of sickness in our church, I led worship on guitar with my girls helping. We just got Anna’s flute back from the repair shop. I really enjoyed her back on the flute. It sounded nice. We sang a rousing version of “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” along with some older praise and worship songs, “He Is Exalted,” “Majesty,” “Lord, Be Glorified,” and “Open Our Eyes.” Before preaching we read the Magi story responsively and then sang “As With Gladness Men of Old.” After preaching, I sang the Chris Tomlin song, “Uncreated One,” which is a beautiful new hymn describing Christ.
This evening we participated in a Covenant Renewal Service. I’ll post that on my sermon site. It is a fairly simple and straight forward service that reminds us of our covenant with Christ. I’ve even included the songs that we sang as part of the service.
One last comment about the day and that’s what made it over average. Thank you to our students who attended today. You’re behavior was outstanding in both the morning and evening services. Thank you for what you mean to me and our church. I encourage you to keep seeking the truth and God’s way of doing things, even if it is only ordinary.
