While today did not have the WOW! factor of the past few Sundays, it was still a good day. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the WOW! factor; to look for the next spiritual high. I know that I have to guard against that.
Our theme for the Second Sunday of Advent was that it is a season of comfort and peace. One of our ladies lit the candle and led us in a responsive reading. We sang the song, “Shine, Jesus, Shine.” and then an Advent carol, “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus.” Our students then gave
us a preview of their Christmas program which was tonight. We completed our musical worship with “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen.” I picked that because of the line, “tidings of comfort and joy.” I shared with the congregation last week’s story of how God filled me up with His peace and comfort. When God fills us with comfort and peace, then we can fill others with peace and comfort. We finished with a new hymn, “Christ is the World’s Light.”
Our original plan this afternoon was to prepare our house for Christmas by putting up the Christmas tree as a family. But that changed because we felt we needed to go to the hospital to visit a sick newborn. On the way home Pam and I started talking about the week’s events and I was overwhelmed by God. To think that God used me the way He did was amazing.
We did get home and the children put up the tree (it’s artificial) but it had to be shaped and then I put on the lights. (More on that in another post) after I finished the lights, Pam and the
children put all the ornaments on. We finished that and went to choir practice.
Then our students put on their Christmas play, “Christmas; When, Where, and Why.” They did a great job. It was great to see many of their parents there. We have quite a few students whose parents do not come to church. Thank you to Vicky and Joanie for the great job of putting all together. I’ve included a couple of pictures of our tree and the student’s performance.
