This was a great day of ministry. It was a wonderful day of thanking God for who He is and what He has done. As I mentioned yesterday, I had the rare opportunity to preach twice; once during our regular service and a second time at a community service this evening.
Because of the way the liturgical calendar works this year, Christ the King Sunday falls on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, leaving this Sunday to celebrate Thanksgiving. I like to follow the calendar because Christ the King Sunday sets up the Advent season. Next week I will be finishing Lifesong Lessons. We have taken a wonderful journey taking a look at what it means to worship. Both of today’s sermons, took a look at that subject. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
In the morning service, we started with a responsive reading and then sang the song, Forever, How Great is Our God, and then How Great Thou Art. At that point, we gave our congregation an opportunity to express their praise and thanksgiving to God. It was awesome. Then we sang “Count Your Blessings,” and then took the offering. After that we sang the old chorus “Thank You, Lord” and then we prayed and we looked at A Heart of Thanksgiving. We finished with two more songs of praise, “Come, Ye Thankful People Come” and “We Gather Together.” It was a great service.
This afternoon we had choir practice and we have a great choir. Then we got ready to go to the community service. It was great as we worshiped with brothers and sisters from two Baptist churches, a United Methodist Church and a Disciples of Christ Church. This evening I preached “Seek the Kingdom and Be Thankful.” I was humbled to be used by God as I preached. What a way to end the day. Thank you Lord for being so faithful to us.
