Today’s sermon was the third in a series that’s titled “Lifesong Lessons.” The sermons in this series have been inspired from the CD Lifesong by Casting Crowns. Today we looked at how we worship by helping others. James 1:27 says, “27Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles, and refuse to let the world corrupt us.” If everything we do is worship to God Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth, then helping others is part of being a living sacrifice and part of worship. Will loving people like Jesus be easy? Not all the time. Will loving people like Jesus cause us to be misunderstood? Probably. Jesus was misunderstood by the Pharisees. Jesus say come to me, you who are tired and worn out. Let me help you. Jesus calls the church to be His hands and feet and to quote the rest of the line “to reach a world in need.” How can we love others like Jesus? How can we help them through trials?
- Sometimes we just need to be there for them. Maybe we need to just hold their hands. The best thing for us to do is to be quiet and just be there. Job’s friends were of little help as he sought answers from God. Like the Proverbs say, “Even a fool will be considered wise if he remains silent.”
- The next thing we can do is to pray for them. Very few people I know will refuse a prayer for them when they are going through trouble. We can be intersessors for them like Christ has been for us.
- The last thing we can do is to give them hope. Christ has given us a wonderful hope and the hope that we have in Christ we can share with others.
Over the next week, I encourage you to love others the way Jesus has loved us.
